Why Invest in Slow Fashion?
• Posted in Brand
We know of so many people who were only slightly interested in slow fashion but never did because they didn’t dig deep enough to truly understand their “why.”
Today, we will help you make a solid decision!
Let’s skip the fluff and go straight to the 4 reasons you should invest in slow fashion.
1.) You’ll show that slow and steady really does win the race.
Fast fashion makes billions. Until it didn’t – hello, 2020! With slow fashion, you can get more for more.
What more can you get? Better quality materials and construction. It not only extends the life of the product, but also can make it easier to care for (and it becomes more likely for you to keep it)!
2.) You won’t contribute to overconsumption and overproduction.
With our upcoming antimicrobial toiletry bag as an example:
- You can stop using those single-use plastic bags to hold all your toiletries and cosmetics. It’s not like they can be used for anything else after that either! And what are the chances you’ll actually keep them around for the next trip?
- You’ll resist the temptation of those “spend $75 to get this free gift bag” adverts for the sparkly, fancy (fleeting) cosmetics bag . . . you don’t even regularly shop there! And, let’s face it, all those products you buy from that promo will just sit on your vanity until your next spring clean.
- You buy what you actually need! Rather than funding large corporations that make too much to sell you too much for a huge profit, you’ll support small businesses that seek to solve problems for you and are passionate about things other than money.
No matter the type of product, those fast-fashion things usually go in the trash when we’re “done” or “over it;” even if it’s the donation bin . . . they usually still find their way into the trash eventually.
Straight up: save hundreds (and the planet) long-term!
3.) You’ll be supporting human-centered form of capitalism.
A lot of shoppers choose cheap over quality that they can get online because it’s convenient.
But, the low costs of production means the money has to be cut from somewhere; and, it’s usually from labor. You not only want to reduce harm to the planet, but also to your fellow human and their quality of life; it will also grow the economy long-term for you and everyone else (seriously!).
4.) You can shift the industry and its standard practices.
At the end of the day, it’s about supply and demand. And all it takes is one small splash (your purchase) to create a ripple (industry-wide change).
Right now, the toiletry & cosmetics bags on the market all look the same. You’ll either see variously sized pouches with cute designs or the million-pocketed utilitarian bags available in black or gray. What do they have in common? They’re usually made of virgin plastics – it’s prevalent in both the low and high end of brands.
Why? Because there’s no economic motivation to change what’s working . . . And this applies to any kind of product. It all starts somewhere and that somewhere is YOU!
Do any of these reasons resonate with you? You just received a great overview on why you should support slow fashion. And while these “why’s” will go a long way in helping people stay the course and avoid temptation of instant gratification, people who are serious about reducing consumption will take it to the next level ASAP.
We have a feeling you’re on of those people!
